Presentation
Spyglass Hill™ Golf Course takes its name from Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic novel, Treasure Island, published in 1883. The first five holes roll through sandy seaside dunes, challenging you to carefully choose the safest path.
The next 13 holes are carved from majestic pine trees, with elevated greens, bunkers and strategically placed lakes to catch errant shots. The par 5 1st sets the stage, playing down the slope and with a breathtaking panorama; and you can survey Monterey Bay from the raised tee at the par 3 3rd, though watch out for the bunkered and back-slanting green.
The inland part of the layout is more difficult, since it is less open. The facilities are considerably less lavish: offerings in the pro shop are fairly skimpy, locker rooms are not available and there is no sit-down restaurant.
What Spyglass offers is a real test of golf in spectacular surroundings. The club is themed after Stevenson’s beloved Treasure Island.
