Presentation
18-Hole CourseOpened in 1929. Design by Dr.
Alister MacKenzie & Robert Hunter. The Valley Club of Montecito is a private club, whose members enjoy golf, participation in social activities and each other’s company.
The site lies between the sea and the Santa Ynez range in Santa Barbara. Fairways are generous but the slant of greens demand certain angles of approach.
Greens are diminutive and quick, and defended by hidden bunkering. The holes vary nicely and demand a wide variety of shots.
Tom Doak carried out the sensitive refurbishment of the bunkering in the mid-Nineties. Among the more memorable holes are the 425-yard 9th, a dogleg that proceeds from a raised tee over the stream to a raised green.
The 14th is a 177-yard trek through a gap in the woods and over a ravine. All in all, the course offers a nice blend of scenery and challenging golf.
It is located in perhaps the best golfing weather in the nation.
