Presentation
18-Hole Course at Quaker Ridge in Scarsdale, New York, was built in 1915. Original design: A.
W. Tillinghast.
Remodeled by Rees Jones. The 1936 Metropolitan Open was played here (and was one of Byron Nelson’s first big victories), and members around that time included George Gershwin.
According to locals, George Washington pitched his tent somewhere around what is now the 10th the night before defeating the British in a battle. The length of the course tops out at 6400 meters.
The course was designed by A. W.
Tilledhast, and was expanded in the Twenties and Twenty-First century by Robert Trent Jones Sr. and Jr.
Some bunkers and tees have been readjusted, but the layout remains essentially the same as it was in the early 1900s. The 18-hole course was built by Metropolitan Golf Links, a club that was bought out by some of the members in the 1920s.
