Presentation
Southern Hills Country Club is a private, member-owned country club located in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The Championship Golf Course is recognized among the top 100 courses in the world and has been the host to 16 Championships since 1945.
Major championship golf returns to Southern Hills, May 16-22, 2022, for the unprecedented fifth PGA Championship. Arnold Palmer and Ben Hogan were said to have had particular respect for the par four twelfth.
Some of the doglegs are not drivable, in particular given the dense rough. Greens are highly sculpted and are tough without exactly being tricky.
The members’ tees do not much differ from the championship tees, so Southern Hills stands ready to field major competitions, which in recent years have included the 2001 US Open (won by Retief Goosen) and the 2007 Pga Championship ( won by Tiger Woods) The 2009 US Amateur was also held at Southern Hills. The Club was established in 1935 amid the Great Depression.
A year later, the golf course opened on May 23rd, 1936.
