Overview
Cypress Point is a private golf club in California. The club has a single 18-hole course, one of eight on the Monterey peninsula near Monterey, California.
Course was designed by noted golf course designer Alister MacKenzie, collaborating with fine amateur golfer Robert Hunter in 1928. The course is well-known around the world for its series of dramatic holes that play along the Pacific Ocean: the 15th, 16th and 17th hole.
All are regularly rated among the best holes in the world. Cypress Point, along with Augusta, Pine Valley and Seminole, is one of the four great private American clubs.
These clubs were founded in the 1920s and 1930s, and it is said that no one may belong to all four. The first 14 holes are along the white sand dunes of Monterey and the sixteenth across the roiling surf, creating what is perhaps golf’s most photographed hole.
It is a bastion of exclusivity on the West Coast.
