Overview
Pinehurst No. 2, No.
8 and No. 4 are consistently ranked among the world’s best.
Golf courses number 1 & 3 reflect Donald Ross’s most original Pinehurst works. The scale is grand, featuring large tees, generous fairways and proportionately spacious greens.
Doglegs abound, and pools and little gullies bring water into play on a number of holes. The stretch from the 11th through the 13th, a pair of tough par 4s bracketing a short hole, form a kind of Scottish Amen Corner.
The middle 12th is called Davey Jones’ Locker in memory of all the good balls that have been lost there. The layout extends amid thick forest that is like an arboretum of Scottish and British trees, so great is the variety of species.
The course is located in Dundee, which has an abundance of land for links courses, but there aren’t a whole lot of parkland courses in Scotland, but James Braid created a great one in the 1930s.
