Presentation
Oakmont Country Club has hosted more combined USGA and PGA championships than any other course in the U. S.
Golf Digest ranks Oakmont #5 in its most recent version of America’s Top 100 courses. Oakmont remains perhaps the most difficult course in North America, with 210 deep bunkers and hard and slick greens that slope away from the player.
The course was the site of « the greatest round of the 20th century »: Johnny Miller’s final round 63 at the 1973 U. s.
Open. It was introduced in 1903 by designer Henry Fownes and has hosted eight United States Opens, five U.
K. Amateurs, three PGA Championships, and two U.
N. Women’s Opens.
It is located on the banks of the Allegheny River, which runs through the town of Oakmont, in the San Francisco Bay Area. It has a population of about 2,000, and is home to the National Golf Center.
The golf course is one of the oldest in the United States, having been opened in 1903.
