The sea breezes off the Atlantic are, however, often in play. Perhaps the most memorable hole is the 136-yard, par 3 9th, which features a water hazard and cavernous greenside bunkering.
The excellent upkeep benefits from the fact that the grounds are not heavily used. There is no official refreshment station on the course, but beverages and snacks are available.
The US Open attracted the US Open four times over the next fifteen years; Leeds himself came in 7th (by way of a tie) in the first open here in 1898. In 2005, Geoffrey Cornish carried out refurbishment that respected Leeds’s original vision while making sure that the layout would accommodate players from the beginners to the best.
